ugh, what a crazy few days!

wow, lemme tell you, we have had an insane few days! heres the rundown:
monday was mitchs preop appointment for his surgery. well he came home after the appointment and told me that the surgery may be called off. apparently they found some sort of respiratory irregularity while making sure he could go under anesthesia, and they didnt know what it was. they were throwing around words like "lung cancer" and "emphysema." so needless to say, we were both REALLY freaked out. they told him to go back in at 0800 the following morning, tuesday, to run some more tests and try to figure out what was wrong. so its tuesday morning, 1000, and i havent heard a word from mitch about how things were going. im freaking out. finally he comes home around 1015 and tells me its NOT cancer or emphysema but theyre still not sure what it is. but at this point the surgery has been cancelled. 5 minutes after he got home, womack (the army hospital at ft bragg) calls him to come back in to run some more tests. so he leaves, and its another 2 hours before i hear from him. turns out, the machine that gave the problem readout was broken. it had given a false reading and mitch was COMPLETELY fine. so we are both SO relieved, and happy that the surgery is back on. so yesterday, day of the surgery, we get to womack at 1000. he goes back with the doc and i assume my place in the waiting room. a few hours go by with no work, so i call the desk to find out the status. they tell me he hasnt even been taken back yet. so i go get some lunch and wait some more. around 1500 i call again and am told that he is still in surgery. they couldnt tell me when he had gone into surgery so i didnt know how long it had been. but the doctor told me it would only take 20-30 min, so i sit some more and expect to hear something soon. well, as of 1615 i still hadnt heard anything, and i knew the surgery was over by now. im getting ready to call again when the surgeon comes out to see me. cue sigh of relief. s he takes me back to see mitch, who is still loopy from the anesthesia (he asked me for an elephant sandwich). we wait around for another hour for the paperwork to be completed and his prescriptions to be filled. we finally leave the hospital at 1800 and head out. yup, we left the hospital and drove straight thru to ohio...or i guess i should say i drove and he slept lol. thats a 9-hour drive by the way. we didnt get in until 0400 today. we are exhausted, hes in a slight amount of pain, but we are finally home. now begins the 2-week marathon of driving all over the place seeing everyone we can lol. after this, i am not driving for a looooong time!! XD

Skybus to settle ex-workers' suit

Friday, March 13, 2009 3:13 AM
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Skybus Airlines estimated its liability at up to $3 million if it were to lose the suit, according to a court filing.

Skybus Airlines estimated its liability at up to $3 million if it were to lose the suit, according to a court filing.

Eleven months after its abrupt shutdown, Skybus Airlines has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by former employees unhappy about being blindsided.

The suit alleges that the Columbus-based airline violated the Workers' Adjustment and Retraining Notice Act last April by failing to give 60 days' advance notice of the mass layoff of about 365 employees in central Ohio.

The settlement must be approved by the bankruptcy court in the state of Delaware, said James E. Huggett, the Wilmington, Del.-based attorney for the plaintiffs.

The dollar amount should be disclosed in a court filing within three weeks, he said. In a filing earlier this year, the airline estimated its liability at $2.5 million to $3 million if it were to lose the case.

The payment would be distributed among former employees. Only seven former employees, including chief pilot Chris Grazel and maintenance and engineering chief Toney Quillen, formally opted out of the class-action suit, according to a filing this week.

Skybus also has agreed to allow essentially the entire $5.2 million claim from the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, which controls Port Columbus.

The amount will be reduced by a $600,000 overpayment by Skybus of passenger facility charges, which are fees levied by the airport to use for capital-improvement projects.

The resulting $4.6 million claim by the airport joins several thousand other unsecured general claims that Skybus has estimated it will be able to pay at a rate of 76 cents on the dollar, said David Whitaker, vice president of business development for the airport authority.

Skybus plans to wind down its bankruptcy proceeding in the next several weeks pending court approval.

He is risen! Alleluia!

Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured, While we thought of him as stricken, as one smitten by God and afflicted. But he was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins, Upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed. We had all gone astray like sheep, each following his own way; But the LORD laid upon him the guilt of us all. Though he was harshly treated, he submitted and opened not his mouth; Like a lamb led to the slaughter or a sheep before the shearers, he was silent and opened not his mouth. Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away, and who would have thought any more of his destiny? When he was cut off from the land of the living, and smitten for the sin of his people, A grave was assigned him among the wicked and a burial place with evildoers, Though he had done no wrong nor spoken any falsehood. (But the LORD was pleased to crush him in infirmity.) If he gives his life as an offering for sin, he shall see his descendants in a long life, and the will of the LORD shall be accomplished through him. Because of his affliction he shall see the light in fullness of days; Through his suffering, my servant shall justify many, and their guilt he shall bear.
Isaiah 53: 4-11

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go and anoint him. Very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back; it was very large. On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. He said to them, "Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. But go and tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.'"

PISSED OFF

so 2 months ago when we adopted our cat greg, we saw a stray cat on the side of the road on our way home. we stopped, picked him up and took him back to the shelter to get care and told the people running the shelter that if he survived we wanted to adopt him. well he survived, and weve been calling every week or so for 2 months to check up on him and see how hes doing. we called last weekend wanting to know if he was ready for adoption and were told he was having his last series of shots and wouldnt be ready for pickup until this weekend. so i call back today and was told that i could adopt him today but wouldnt be able to take him home until wednesday because he needed to be neutered. i asked if there was anything else that he needed done and again asked how he was doing and she said the cat was doing fine, that his skull fracture was pretty bad but hes doing very well now. ok first of all...SKULL FRACTURE?! 2 months of us calling to check on him and this is the FIRST time weve heard about a skull fracture! youd think that would be something they would think to mention! so i drive out there (the shelter is about 45 min from our house, so its not just a quick trip) to give her the adoption fee and see the cat for myself. im pissed as hell at this point, because we have not been informed that the cat we want to adopt had such a serious injury; we feel like weve been deliberately misled. so i get there and first thing ask to see the cat. i take him from the handler, and he is just limp in my arms. normally a cat will try to prop himself up or hold his head up, but he didnt do any of that. he was completely limp. i start to check for responses like my MIL had told me to (i called her on my way there) and he doesnt respond to anything i did. he kept moving his head back and forth, looking side to side, but i dont think he really noticed anything. you know how a cat will look all around but is usually focused on something? he didnt seem to be focusing on anything, just aimlessly looking around. i asked the woman running the place why we hadnt been informed of such a serious injury in the 2 months wed been calling. she told me "well you just called to see how he was doing, you didnt ask specifics." blink.gif excuse me?! so, im just supposed to know to ask about a skull fracture that i dont even know he has?!? i asked her how much brain damage there had been, what kind of special care he would need, and she looked at me and said, "well, he is what he is." i almost lost it at this point. then i asked her what kind of damage there had been and she said there had been a hole in his skull that went all the way to his brain; apparently it was pretty nasty. i handed the cat back to her and told her i couldnt adopt him right now, that id have to discuss it with my husband, and got out of there as fast as i could. i am so unbelievably pissed off, mostly because they essentially lied to us for 2 months. the fact that they kept delaying the pickup tells me that they were stalling, waiting to see if his condition would change at all. the shelter is a huge barn, and they keep most of the cats in cages, 2 to a cage, and put them in the hallways so people can walk in and see them. this cat was kept in a cage by himself in a stall, im assuming alone; i didnt see enough of it to see if there were any other cats in the stall with him. the point is, he was kept out of sight of people, which tells me that they KNEW he is essentially unadoptable. they knew we wanted to adopt him, and so they did what they could to keep his condition from us so we could take him off their hands. they wouldnt put him down because theyre a no-kill shelter, even though putting him down may, at this point, be the most humane thing. i cant believe they hid all this from us. and i feel awful, but we just dont have the resources to provide him with the kind of care he would need, being as brain-damaged as i think he is. we did everything we could for him, we did the right thing; picking him up off the street and getting him medical care. theres nothing more we can do for him. and im wondering, if hes this impaired, is he suffering? if he is, theyre not going to do anything about it because they wont put him down. id rather him not suffer but im not going to buy him just to put him down. my mom suggested calling the SPCA on monday and asking them if they know about this shelter, what they think of it, and describing to them this whole incident and seeing if theres anything they can do about it, at least something to help this poor cat. im upset and im pissed off and i am NEVER going back there to adopt, because frankly, i dont trust them anymore. theyre more concerned about getting animals adopted and making room for more animals than about telling people the truth. i dont trust them, and i am not going back there.

i missed blogging :)

its another rainy overcast day, but im okay with that. it makes everything greener and keeps the pollen down smiley_big_grin Pictures, Images and Photos

i am a chipotle addict. i cant get enough of it. and its just my luck, there is NO CHIPOTLE in fayetteville sad Pictures, Images and Photos the closest one is in raleigh, an hour away Sad Smiley Pictures, Images and Photos. of course neither mitch nor myself wants to drive that far just for some burritos...no matter how delicious they may be...mmm, guacamole.....i even dreamed we went to chipotle last night. man i can almost taste it...a burrito bol with rice, black beans, steak, corn salsa, sour cream, cheese, lettuce and guac...oh man, this sucks.

so most of you know that i have very varied taste in music. i can listen to pretty much anything. one of my current favorites right now is a band called mediæval bæbes. they formed in the mid-90's and they play music from medieval times. the lyrics are in languages such as middle english and medieval french, to name a few. the music is so different from anything that is out right now, and i think thats part of its appeal. its a refreshing change of pace, from the crazy world we live in to a much simpler time.

i am a fan of poetry (god i just cant seem to stop writing today Lol smiley Pictures, Images and Photos). so heres one of my favorites. i want to get this tattooed on my left hip, with a tiger superimposed over it.

the tyger
by william blake

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art.
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

oh, the pollen

i love living in the south. really, i do. its usually warm, and theres that whole "southern hospitality" thing. plus i have a better chance of running into paula deen down here Giggle Smiley Pictures, Images and Photos.
one of the few things i dont like, is all the pollen. its everywhere. it turns our car from silver to yellow. i like my windows open, so the computer desk, and even part of the couch, is yellow. it is not enjoyable and makes me a sad panda. oh well...i guess i should just be grateful im not allergic to pollen lol.
